November Board
Meeting - NWVC&MM
Service Station
Gary Hodges, former instructor
for auto mechanics at Chemeketa Community College, gave a presentation
on ignition systems and general trouble shooting with his Power Point
and informal discussion. There were 25 in attendance and they vigorously
participated in the question and answer period.
Gary gave some basic recommendations –
1) Make sure the electrical system is well grounded. This may require
more than one ground strap,
2) Make sure there is fuel being delivered to the engine BEFORE checking
any electrical problems,
3) Set the distributor gap (Dwell) first and then do not touch it again
while making other adjustments such as timing, carburetor tuning and
valve clearance.
Gary also related his experiences at the Salt Flat Racing facility near
Salt Lake City. He especially likes to attend during SPEED WEEK.
