Speedster Report - October 2024

By Gary Dennis

As you might expect, things were pretty quiet in the Speedster Shop during the summer. Work went on in the shop that mostly entailed improvement and organization. The biggest improvement was the installation of the swingarm crane by Tony Darcy and his crew at US Crane & Hoist. As their final act, they picked a 1,200# concrete load to validate the installation. Nice work guys!

The donation of a second media blasting booth is now located beside the current one. We can now load each with different blasting media for different jobs, or two students can work side by side at the same time. Thank you to Keenan Foraker for his gracious donation. Our metal fab/body guy, Daniel Porter, worked on the Model A coupe body at his home garage in August and completed most of the rust repairs. He will construct the cab corners as a class project this fall. Thank you, Daniel.

A group of students from Woodburn Bridge Learning Center toured the shop and will be sending students our way. Two of our students last year were from there. Mentors met on September 5 to plan the fall term. New this year, Gary will have the assistance of Jeremy Scholz to manage workflow. Classes started September 12. Visits to the shop, when open, are welcome.
